My Mind…My Battlefield

Laurie Rogers   -

Worry and fear is a greater struggle for me lately. Normally I let Ivan do all the worrying for me because he is the CEO of that department. However, this virus has worry slipping into my daily existence. I worry about Jacob and Allie working and bringing home the virus to Ivan. His weakened immune system, asthma and age make him a high risk for catching the virus.

In the news they say we are at war, fighting a battle against this virus. However, I am fighting a battle in my mind!

Worry can consume my days and nights. But God slowed this world down, I think to give me time to draw closer to him. In my daily Bible reading I came across a verse that jumped off the page at me and screamed “this is for you Laurie”. The verse 2 Chronicles 20:15-18 “…for the battle is NOT yours, but God’s.”

There is a spiritual battle in my mind of worry and fear, but God spoke to me and said this is not my battle to fight, it is God’s. The second part of that scripture says 20:17, “Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you…fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”

This brought me back to a Bible study that Tim Snyder led a few years ago. It was The Power of God’s Names by Tony Evans. I ran and got that book and there was a bookmark in it that said, “Remain at peace: God will fight your battles.” Exodus 14:14. It was on the section on Jehovah Nissi and Jehovah Tsaba.

I am now in prayer remembering to pray Jehovah Nissi which means The Lord my Banner: to go out to battle. The name Jehovah Nissi will teach you how to fight your battle. If you go under the right banner, the victory has already been decided.

This virus and my mind is my Goliath; taunting me with every news story and Facebook post. But God tells me to name my Goliath and hand it over to Jehovah Nissi and Jehovah Tsaba.

I Samuel 17:47 reassures me when I’m in the battle and I bring God into the equation, I win when I let go and let God.

So I encourage you to hand off your Goliath to God today. Whether it is going into work, working from home, assisting your child with their school work, your worries, fears, or whatever. Name your Goliath and hand it off to Jehovah Tsaba! The battle is the Lord’s and the victory is ours!
