A Trustworthy God in Uncertain Times
To know me well, is to know that I am a control freak. I make a plan to make a plan—seriously! I have mapped out what my life should look like for as long as I remember. You can only imagine the stress I automatically felt as our world began spinning out of control when COVID19 came onto the scene.
But wait a minute, the world isn’t spinning out of control—it’s just not in MY control. God is still in control. We serve a faithful God who is trustworthy.
Therefore, why do I find it so difficult to place my trust in His ability to control?
When I was 12 years old I trusted what He said about Eternity. I trusted Him enough, in fact, to give Him my heart and soul to Him, and enter into a relationship with Him.
So why is it that each time my dad was deployed throughout my life, I thought the outcome would be any different than the last?
Why is it that I panicked when I was told that school would be closing, quarantine would be put into place, and life as we know it would alter?
I trust God, I do! But there is a personality trait within me that feels the need to control every aspect of my life. Good news, God’s grace wins every time I try to take control of what isn’t mine to control in the first place. God reminds me time and time again that He is more trustworthy than anyone I will ever encounter.
Over the last several weeks, I have been reminded to spend less time on social media, combing through articles that are meant to scare me, and spend more time in prayer and studying the Word. If you are an inner control freak and perfectionist like me, there is no doubt that the uncertainty caused by this pandemic is causing you worry, anxiety, stress—or all of the above. I hope the following verses will help give you peace, and remind you that we serve a trustworthy God, even in uncertain times.
I urge you to give up your desire for control, and place your undivided trust in the One who controls every breath we breathe, and every aspect of this earth.
Joshua 1:9- God is calling us to be strong and courageous, without fear or discouragement. Even when we may be unclear of where He is leading us, or why certain things are happening, remember that He is with us through it all.
Psalm 9:10- We are able to trust in God because He has not abandoned anyone who seeks Him. When you feel lost, alone, abandoned—continue seeking Him! I promise–HE PROMISES–that He is right there!
Psalm 18: 37-42- One of my FAVORITE passages. I don’t want to share too much here because I want you to read this yourself, but spoiler alert to all of our inner demons and the enemy…WE WIN! Why? Because He wins, every single time, and remember—we’re on His team!
